Roses are red
Violets are blue
How do I show my love?
I’ll V-mail you
Looking for ideas for Valentine’s Day?Well, save your breath and use the e-mail.There are no awkward situations, no lapses in conversation, no need for eye contact and no massive increase in heart rates ! Ten million e-cards changed hands (or is that changed in-boxes) on the 14th February last year – and there’s no doubt that number could double or even treble this year as social networking sites like FaceBook and Twitter gather momentum.
Hang on a minute - let's stop right
here. What's going on ?Isn't Valentine's Day all about fluttering
hearts?Isn't the whole thing about romance, demonstrating your love and
anticipation?Yes, e-mail (or rather V-mail) may be quick and
convenient, but the real essence of Valentine's Day is about
demonstrating your emotions in a tangible way.
And those tangible
ways can be anything from the traditional bunch of red roses, a box of
tempting chocolates, gorgeous lingerie or a candlelit dinner to
something much more adventurous like a tandem parachute jump (just the
thing to get the heart rate up!)
You won't be alone if you decide to take the floral route. In fact, you’ll be among the over 30% of people who choose to say it with flowers. And if you're a traditionalist in the US, your red roses will be among the 190 million that will be presented over the holiday. Research suggest that 44% of people will be sharing a romantic dinner with their loved one, with 12% smelling the roses by giving perfume or cologne, while 38% prefer to part with candy. And just as the internet will be tingling with all the V-traffic, the cash registers of online retailers will ringing as millions of consumers go online to get in line for love.Last year, online sales over the Valentine's Day period exceeded 905 million dollars !
Males outstrip the ladies when it comes to spending -
splurging an average of around 150 dollars as compared to 85
dollars. But as we know - it's not really about how much, but about
sincerity. Even a single flower picked from the garden or a
hand-knitted scarf can be the perfect way of saying ‘I love you.’
And when it comes to thinking about things, lots happens on Valetine's
Day.When it comes to thinking about their life partner, apparently 52
per cent of men propose on Valentine's Day!
But it would appear that if you're considering NOT doing anything this Valentine's Day, it may be a decision worth re-considering.A whopping 53 per cent of women will break up with their boyfriends if they don't get anything from them come Valentine's Day. So unless you’re planning an exit strategy, it would seem a good idea to get down to your local Perth florist, lingerie store or jewellery shop and spread your love!
